Flower gardening is a favorite hobby for many. Flowers break up the monotony of a vast expanse of lawn. No matter the size of the garden plot you have to work with, your time and budget constraints, or your personality, you can design a flower garden that allows you to express your creativity, to get closer to nature, and to further enjoy being human.
You need to choose the best suited gardening technique, depending upon the location, weather conditions, and availability of water. Flower gardening can be done in your backyard, balcony or window. The only condition is that the place you select for garden should receive sunlight for maximum time of the day. If sunlight cannot reach the plants, make sure you provide them enough artificial light with the help of LED or compact fluorescent lamps. Depending on in which season you are planting flowers, you should opt for the relevant technique.
Flowers grow very well in containers. Containers make it easy to add colorful blooms to a dull landscape. Flowers like marigolds, roses, geraniums etc grow famously inside a container. Make sure that the pots in which plants are grown provide proper drainage for water. After a particular period, repot your flower plants. Container growing provides a very easy way to keep invasive plants, like mint or oregano, in their chosen spaces.
The soil you choose for flower gardening should be rich in nutrients and humus. It is important to properly space your plants. Remember, that an overcrowded garden looks like a jungle and is very difficult to clean and maintain. Till the soil, weed out the wild plants and unwanted grass, make sure soil is porous and not too wet or too dry before you start planting cuttings or sowing seeds of flowering plants. Make sure your flowering plants get enough fertilizers. However, avoid using nitrogenous chemical fertilizers. It is best to go organic and using more and more natural fertilizers. Always keep your plants from pest infestation because flowering and ornamental plants act like magnets to insects, rodents and snakes. Keep removing the weeds, dried out leaves etc from your garden/ growing space.
Flowering plants require constant pruning and cutting. If you do not prune your plants, they will grow haphazardly in any direction and there is a strong chance that many of them will be tilted forever. To avoid such issues, cut off irregular branches and prune off yellowing, dead leaves. By following these tips and techniques, you can get colorful, flourishing flower garden full of ornamental trees and plants.
